The Adventures of Lucy Bk. 1

       Wolves of the Wild

                                                     Chapter 2

                                                     Road Trip!

Lucy spread herself all over the seats for a long nap. “Hey! Cut it out will you!” barked Shyla as Lucy’s legs went flying in the air. “Besides, how can you sleep when you have so many things to see?” Lucy looked up at Shyla with round, curious eyes. “Really?” she asked. “Sure!” exclaimed Shyla. “One time I saw tones of deer crossing the road. I really wanted to chase them but our owners wouldn’t let me. Just look out the window.” Lucy put her snout against the window. Her eyes were round with wonder. There were mountains everywhere! Small ones and tall ones; and lots of forests! There were forests of green, autumn colors, and much more. Lucy was out of breath. “I-I-It’s so beautiful!” she woofed wagging her short stubby tail.

Five hours had gone by until Lucy woke up to see the car had stopped moving and was in front of a sign. Shyla grumbled as she got up. “Why did we stop? Are we in Jasper?” asked Shyla. “I don’t know. Are we in Jasper Shyla?” replied Lucy. Shyla took a look at her surroundings. “Yes. This is it. We’re in Jasper.”

                                                          Chapter 3

                                                       Taking It All In

“This is going to be so exciting!” yowled Lucy jumping up and down as one of her owners put a leash around her bright, orange collar. Lucy raced ahead of her companions until she got flung back by the leash. “Careful!” barked Shyla. “This leash keeps you from running away.” “Do you need one?” asked Lucy panting in excitement. “Of course.” replied Shyla as another black leash got attached to her brown collar. “Where are we going first?” Lucy asked excitedly. “I think we’re going to go on a walk.” answered Shyla as they started to walk up to a large, green, unusual house. All of a sudden Lucy noticed that Shyla had started to shiver madly. “What’s wrong? I thought you loved walks.” asked Lucy looking at her friends with innocent, big, brown eyes. “I do but we aren’t just going on a walk.” whimpered Shyla. “I remember this place; this is where you go all the way up the mountain in a flying vehicle thing.” “That doesn’t sound so bad.” replied Lucy in confusion. “Maybe not for you but for me; all the people in that tiny thing, it makes you feel like you’re trapped.” whispered Shyla. “But I’ll go on it one last time.” As they neared the entrance of the weird building; Lucy could see the flying cars going up and down from the mountain. Lucy looked at the green and silver flying cars in astonishment. As they entered the giant building, Lucy made out a giant black and white bear standing on two paws. “Hello.” greeted Lucy. Shyla sighed. “That’s not a real bear, Lucy. It’s a statue.” “Oh.” woofed Lucy embarrassed. “Sorry.”  All of a sudden they were in a line up. Lucy paced around impatiently. Half an hour later, Lucy, Shyla, and their companions were going up to the mountain in a flying car. Lucy felt the ground start to move. “Oh my dog this is so cool! I feel like I’m flying!” woofed Lucy excitedly. Shyla’s face was twisted in fear. “I think I’m going to be sick.” she whimpered as her whole body trembled in fear. The ride was quiet and relaxing for Lucy as the flying car swayed back in forth ever so lightly.
A door opened as all the people poured out of the car. Pointy stones were everywhere with no trees at all. “What is this place?” asked Lucy yanking on her leash, trying to sniff a rock in curiosity. “I’m pretty sure were on top of a mountain, Lucy.” Shyla exclaimed before she sniffed the air. “In fact, I smell a Pika.” Lucy looked at her with a puzzled face. “It’s a kind of rodent that lives under these rocks and calls them home.” explained Shyla. Lucy’s eyes sparkled with excitement as she yanked hard on her leash to try and find one. “We’re going this way, Lucy.” barked Shyla.

                                                   The Trip to Jasper

"What’s going on?” woofed Lucy as her human companions were packing suit cases. She heard the clanking of claws along the wooden floor of an old house. “I think we might be going to Jasper.” answered a voice behind her. Lucy turned her head around to see her best friend, Shyla. “What’s Jasper?” asked Lucy. “Jasper is a place with lots of mountains and squirrels.” answered the Duck Toller mix with a Golden Retriever and Ridgeback. “And just how do you know that?” demanded Lucy. “I’ve been there a couple times with my companions. I tried to catch a squirrel but it was too fast.” grumbled Shyla. “So are we coming with them?” asked Lucy excitedly. “Probably.” murmured Shyla licking her black nose. “Well,” she barked. “I’m going to go eat the rest of my dry kibbles now.” Lucy let out a long sigh as she looked at her best friend walk slowly to her food bowl. Lucy had been adopted by this family when she was two years old and when Shyla was five. Now her older friend is six and Lucy is only three. “I’m going to miss play fighting with her.” muttered Lucy letting out a noisy sigh. For the rest of the afternoon, Lucy slept. “Hey!” growled Lucy as she felt someone jabbing her side. “Cut it out!” She opened her dark brown eyes to see Shyla prodding her in the side. “We’re leaving for Jasper.” Lucy jumped out of her comfy bed immediately. “We are?” she barked happily. “Why didn’t you say so?” Then she heard her name. “Let’s go.” woofed Shyla racing down the house stairs. Lucy raced after her and bolted ahead through the gate and skidded to a stop in front of a shiny, black car with a trailer on its back. This is going to be so exciting, thought Lucy as the human opened the door for both dogs to get in. “Ugh.” Shyla muttered wrinkling her nose in disgust as she jumped on a seat. “It smells horrible in here.” “Oh cheer up Shyla.” barked Lucy. “We’re going to Jasper!” Shyla just snorted and licked her white paws thoroughly. All of a sudden, the car started rumbling and rolled silently down the road. This is it, thought Lucy. I’m going to see Jasper!
